What if Pepin son of Pepin the short and Betrada of laon lives

Since the succession law divided the inheritance among all sons, yes the empire gets divided. I could certainly see them trying to fight each other to get each other's territory.

Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

Byzantium isn't going to take over Egypt anytime soon, after the initial Arab invasions they never went much further than Antioch, let alone Egypt. And the ERE had some troubles with the Seljuks and Normans at that point so it's very doubtful they can do anything.

Germany wins WWI: How would the post war situation in it's eastern puppet states be like?

Excuse me???!!!?!?!?? Structure Seats 767 Political groups Bolsheviks: 183 seats Mensheviks: 18 seats Armenian Revolutionary Federation: 10 seats Socialist Revolutionary Party: 324 seats Ukrainian Socialist-Revolutionary Party: 110 seats Kadets: 16 seats Alash Orda: 15...

Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

Why don't we invade North Italy? It's rich and theoretically not impossible we succeed. Why not invade the ERE? It's rich and up until this point has proven itself to be weak. Really this kind of argument can apply itself to a lot of places other than Egypt and they're easier to invade.

Consequences of the collapse of the Soviet Union for the Pacific War

The US was not ready to take a million casualties to invade Japan, which is why they didn't IOTL and preferred sending nukes, asking the Soviets to invade Manchuria and watching Japan starve until surrender. Anyways the Germans might have less troops at the beginning but in the unprobeable case...

Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

It makes it significantly harder than if you were invading your neighbour. Egypt is on the other side of the Mediterranean, I don't see why the Normans would plan to go navally invade it just because. The Normans didn't seem to have plans to do invade Egypt, for the matter there are several...

for WW3 stories: the Soviet dilemna about... French nuclear weapon or "Why the Rhine was the limit"

If the Soviets were to try to get something "substantial" they would risk nuclear apocalypse with the US. Most of West Germany is more than enough to get a favorable peace deal, which is all you can hope for in WW3.

    Alternate Lebensraums

It's not exactly the same thing as Lebensraum, Lebensraum wanted to eliminate all persons living in the East and replace them with Germans; the Pan-[ethnic group] considers that all these people are very similar and that they should live in one nation, not that they should be replaced. Those who...

Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

Didn't fail because of that but fighting hundreds of miles away from your bases has some issues. And you will notice the Fifth Crusade has bases nearby unlike the Normans here. Why is going on land arduous? Striking at Egypt from Sicily is not very likely to be the Normans' first objective.

possibility and impact of France intervening in the second Schleswig war?

It would simply be suicide for France to go against all of the German Confederation. The British aren't going to support him since they don't want a war on the continent and even if they did, they likely wouldn't send much help to Denmark or France. It's not like he can do much, he can't...

Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

OTL they're guys with religious fervor who are doing something in the name of God and with his benediction, the Crusades are not something guys would do normally, it's an extremely risky thing to do. Most Crusades didn't even go to the Levant navally but passed trough Anatolia, the only case...

What happens to the Khanate of Khiva and Emirate of Bukhara in a scenario where the Russian Republic survives?

They're likely not giving them independence, the Russian leaders have very few reasons to give up on their rightful territory.

possibility and impact of France intervening in the second Schleswig war?

Nap III won't intervene if Prussia and Austria are involved, all he can do is diplomatically protest.

Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

Why would they go on an adventure on the other side of the Mediterranean? When they have several problems with the HRE even at home? The Crusades went there because of religious fervor, not because it's practical or a smart idea. Edit: Actually most Crusades passed trough Anatolia before going...

Norman Guiscard invades Fatimid Egypt instead of Byzantine Empire

They're not getting in Egypt first, they'll have to pass trough modern day Libya and Tunisia first.

What if WWI ended in 1916 with a status quo ante bellum?

There's no way they go with an status quo ante, all states when they joined wanted something and with a white peace they don't get that something. And no side will accept what the other side demands, after the Brusilov Offensive the Russian government thinks it has a chance to win the war and...

A surviving Lord Kitchener in a Central Powers victory TL? Plausibility Check.

Petain came to power because he was invited in the government and then the French Parliament gave him full powers, if Kitchener is saying that all the politicians have betrayed him I doubt they would be very eager to put him in charge and without WW2 Petain wouldn't be very likely to come to...

A surviving Lord Kitchener in a Central Powers victory TL? Plausibility Check.

That wasn't my point, fascist governments who came to power by winning (at least some) popular support, were not exactly 70 y/o, I'm not certain that Kitchener will manage to have this appeal.

A surviving Lord Kitchener in a Central Powers victory TL? Plausibility Check.

Also I have doubts on a guy over 65 to be able to appeal to the younger generations like Mussolini or Hitler did.

Russia and Germany as allies in an alternate WW1

OTL doesn't seem to suggest like the Habsburgs really wanted to develop Hungary (if someone can say that Hungarians live like in the Middle Ages it doesn't seem like they were trying to develop the region). 8 millions more than France, what a large population. But why give the same amount as...
