Could the Greeks have held Smyrna?

In the aftermath of WWI the Greeks had been promised big chunks of Turkey, and the Ottoman's had signed on the dotted line. Attaturk had refused however, and in the ensuing Greco-Turkish War the Greeks were forced to withdraw after strife at home. I'm wondering if the Greeks, absent the disastrous strike at Ankara (or the death of the king and all the problems that entailed) could have held the territory they claimed from Turkey, or would the Turks have driven them out not long after anyways?

Short version yes. Long version? This
