In 1858 Italian Felice Orsini attempted to kill Napoleon III,according to him a republican revolution would break out that would expand to other countries including Italy. What would happen if he succeeds in killing emperor?I think republican revolution would not happen,in fact this would lead to suppression of republicans in France. IOTL many thought of a British involvement since the bombs were made in the UK but Napoleon III did not want to elaborate, what would the new emperor Napoleon IV do instead?

There would be a massive chilling of Franco-Italian relations, a drop in support could have dire consequences for the savoys In the unification campaign

but Iam not sure if it’s enough to prevent the unification of much of Italy, but Rome and Lumbardy Venice might be out of Italian reach

Napoleon IV might try to reconcile with the Hapsburgs of Austria, maybe by pushing more aggressively for a Hapsburg dynasty in Mexico.

IOTL the event served Napoleon III's interest in the issue of Italian unification,in fact a year later France helped the Savoy in the second Italian war of independence
